An American football game is divided into four quarters.

Each game has:

  • 4 quarters that together make up 2 halves.
  • At most levels (like the NFL and college), those four quarters add up to 60 minutes of game clock time.

Overtime, if needed, comes after those four quarters and is structured by separate rules, but it doesn’t change the fact that regulation football has four quarters.
