Pashmina wool is obtained from a special kind of goat, commonly called the Pashmina goat or Changthangi goat, which is a type of cashmere goat found in the high-altitude Himalayan regions (mainly Ladakh in India, as well as parts of Nepal and Pakistan).

It comes specifically from the very fine, soft undercoat of these goats, which keeps them warm in extremely cold mountain climates.
