For the check part of the notice, check, share procedure, the key principles are:

  • Recognise sensitivity and handle with care
The issues that can make a person susceptible to radicalisation are highly sensitive, so concerns should be handled with duty of care, respect, and appropriate confidentiality rather than casual discussion or gossip.
  • Build a fuller picture before acting
Try to understand the bigger picture by gaining more context about what you have noticed, including whether it is a one‑off comment or part of a pattern, and whether there are other vulnerabilities or risk factors.
  • Discreetly check concerns with the right person
Check your concern discreetly with a trusted colleague, line manager, or designated safeguarding lead to seek advice and ensure you are following correct safeguarding and Prevent procedures, rather than acting alone or immediately escalating to police unless there is an imminent threat.

In many training question sets that say “Select 3 that apply”, these are the three options treated as the correct key principles for the check stage.
